Bangladesh has slowly and steadily risen in the cricketing domain over the last couple of decades. Not just their game play on the field but Bangladesh has time and again proved that they are capable of providing infrastructure on which international cricket can be conspicuously and flamboyantly executed. Bangladesh has until now hosted many multi nation events including many Asia Cup events. The inaugural edition of the International Cricket Council’s Champions trophy, which seized to exist recently, had been organised in Bangladesh in 1998. This was Bangladesh’s first major ICC event hosting.

Following that, Bangladesh has successfully hosted ICC Under-19 World Cup and more recently co-hosted the highly successful ICC ODI World Cup of 2011, which India won. On the back of these successful hosting events, Bangladesh will now be hosting the fifth edition of ICC T20 World Cup of 2014. This will be the biggest ICC event hosted until now in Bangladesh, considering that 16 nations would participate in Men’s event and 8 in Women’s event. Though it has not been announced until yet, Bangladesh might organise world cup opening ceremony to mark the beginning of the event.

Although a t20 world cup opening ceremony is not customary as per the four editions happened until now, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s boss Papon said they might give it a thought. The tournament is scheduled to take place between March 16 - April 6 2014 and if a t20 opening ceremony is to happen, it would be announced by the concerned authorities.
